Club Reaches Out to Kids in Crisis

The Howard-Suamico Optimist Club in the Wisconsin North-Upper Michigan District donated 300 children’s books to local law enforcement. This generous donation was made as part of the Club’s involvement with the REACH-a-Child organization.

REACH-a-Child is designed to put smiles on the faces of children in crisis across America through the power of books. REACH stands for Reading Enjoyment Affects Childhood Happiness. The organization provides books to law enforcement officials to give to children during crisis events. Books can be used to distract children from focusing on traffic accidents, domestic disturbances, illnesses and fires.

This was the second year the Club has been involved with the program and members plan to continue contributing as part of their mission to be a friend of youth.
